The latest tvN “Love In Contract” starring Park Min Young, Go Kyung Pyo, and Kim Jae Young premiered to number one, as the most-watched Wednesday-Thursday drama of the evening. It started off highly promising with surprising depth and darkness for a romantic comedy.

RECAP. Love in Contract Recap Episode 1
Park Min Young stars as Choi Sang-Eun who takes on fake girlfriend and fake wife to single men to help them keep their single life for a variety of reasons.
Often times, to please their parents, companies, siblings or even for alumni reunions.
In Sang Eun’s case she actually register marriage to some of the customers, one at a time. Before long, she already divorced 13 times and now, plans to retire.
She is highly professional, only turns up for meetings, dinners and wedding receptions. There is strict set of rules that all her clients adhere to, which includes no physical or emotional attachment in her dealings.
Together with her gay ex client, Woo Gwang-Nam, Sang Eun plans to migrate to Canada to find real love and starts a new life. She informs all her client but the final client on her list is however special.
He is Jung Ji-Ho (Go Kyung Po) who looks well groomed, capable and intelligent. However he seems rather deficient in conversing and building a relationship. His profession is also full of mystery and he attends group therapy class to work communication skills and relationships.
And the strangest thing is that he never disclose any reason for marrying her except to have dinner on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. He offers marriage the first time they met and he cooks for her for the past five years.
As for top celebrity Kang Hae-Jin (Kim Jae Young), he still pines for a missing girl called Jaime, whom he met more than 10 years ago. He even names his beloved cat Jaime, whom he video-reports very often.
One night, Sang Eun finds herself quoting a poem during dinner. And to her surprise, Ji Ho knows the poem. When he quotes it flawlessly, she is impressed that he finally communicates more than his 50 sentences thoughout their marriage.
Then the magic of the show starts, as he “quotes” the last line, ”the most scarred flower is the most fragrant”, which disarms her completely. Finally, she resolves to leave him as a favor to him, so he could move on to a “better” life…..
In the next dinner, she cooks for him but before she could utter the break up, he suggests divorce.
The most memorable scene is the poignant line of the poem which aptly describes Sang Eun who has been scarred her whole life. And clearly, Ji Ho also has inner issues, which results in suppressed emotions and hidden baggages.
In this episode, we see Sang Eun struggling with the break up, having built a soft spot for her quiet husband cum dinner companion. And ironically, without any obvious reason in marrying her probably gave her a sense of hope for normalcy, security and comfort in her otherwise complicated life. And to walk from all that after five years, is not going to be an easy task for her.
Far from being a bore despite his monosyllables, Go Kyung Pyo gives a nuanced performance as the man who says very little, thinks deeply and lives a thousand secrets.
Love in Contract Synopsis
Choi Sang-Eun (Park Min-Young) works as a contract marriage professional. Armed with many skill sets, her job is to assist her clients maintain a perfect single life through fake marriages or relationships.
Her key client is Jung Ji-Ho (Go Kyung-Pyo), a mysterious man who is highly intelligent, meticulous and introverted man. They have a marriage contract for five years, taking up Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule of each week.
A popular actor, Kang Hae-Jin (Kim Jae-Young) has a hidden identity, son of a chaebol family. She has a marriage contract with him for Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday schedule.
As Choi Sang-Eun becomes involved with her two attractive clients, she finds herself unwittingly involved in a love triangle relationship.
